Jackson Walnut Park School is an early childhood and primary school sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Located in an historic neighborhood in Newton, Jackson Walnut Park School features an authentic Montessori early childhood program and a K-6 independent school in the Catholic tradition.
The school offers a rich, discovery-based curriculum, with signature programs that include STEAM education at all grades, a language arts program that incorporates principles from Lucy Calkins’ Reading and Writing Project, and foundations in three languages by sixth grade: Spanish, Mandarin and Latin.

About the Position
Jackson Walnut Park School seeks full-time (7:45 AM – 2:45 PM) Walnut Park Montessori Assistant Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year.
Broad responsibilities include:
- Aide in all aspects of the program in support of the Walnut Park Montessori Director and Lead Teachers.
- Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and order of all program areas to create an aesthetically pleasing environment.
- Coordinate with other team members to create and implement age-appropriate and fun activities for students on an ongoing basis.
- Ensure safety and supervision of students as a top priority.
- Communicate effectively and maintain consistent ground rules with the students.
- Communicate and maintain a friendly and professional relationship with parents.
- Refer parents with questions or concerns to the Lead Teachers or Director.
- Set up and break down the program each year.
- Understand and abide by the policies and procedures within Jackson Walnut Park School Employee Handbooks.
- Familiarize self with the Parent Handbook for practiced policies and procedures.
- Attend team meetings.
- Attend faculty and staff meetings at the beginning and end of the school year.
- Attend all-school events and scheduled meetings outside of your regularly scheduled hours. If you are unable to participate, you will notify the Director in advance.
Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will possess or be pursuing a bachelor’s degree with a major in early childhood or elementary education.
- They will have at least two years prior experience, with a track record of success working with children in a childcare or educational setting.
Pluses include:
- School experience
- Familiarity with Montessori and/or Responsive Classroom practices
- First Aid/CPR/Epi-pen training.
