Sukkot

October 16 @ 6:00 pm - October 23 @ 5:49 pm

Sukkot is a weeklong Jewish holiday that comes five days after Yom Kippur. Sukkot celebrates the gathering of the harvest and commemorates the protection G0d provided for the children of Israel when they left Egypt. (Source)

Sukkot is one of the most joyful festivals on the Jewish calendar. “Sukkot,” a Hebrew word meaning “booths” or “huts,” refers to the Jewish festival of giving thanks for the fall harvest. Also called Z’man Simchateinu (Season of Our Rejoicing), Sukkot is the only festival associated with an explicit commandment to rejoice. (Learn more here)

Sukkot is observed for seven days starting on the fifteenth day of the month of Tishrei in the Hebrew calendar, which falls in September or October in the Gregorian calendar.

While this is not a public holiday in the United States, some Jewish-run organizations are closed during Sukkot.
