Walnut Park Montessori
Walnut Park Montessori fosters independence, concentration, critical thinking, and a sense of order and peace in classroom environments designed for young children.
Founded in 1967 and accredited by the American Montessori Society since 2002, Walnut Park Montessori is situated on a beautiful and historic Newton property in a charming 19th-century carriage house. The converted carriage house accommodates six multi-age Montessori classrooms. In addition to its thoughtfully prepared classrooms, the facility offers a gymnasium, a school library, gardens, and a newly expanded outdoor Natural Playground.
Students at Walnut Park complete a three-year primary program that includes a kindergarten year before moving on to Grade 1 at Jackson Elementary. Focusing on the child as an individual, Montessori-trained teachers instill a love of learning. The school creates an inclusive community that promotes relationships and nurtures children spiritually, cognitively, socially, emotionally, and physically. Walnut Park families come from many ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. This diversity enriches the environment for everyone and children with a wide array of interests, temperaments, and learning styles are welcome.
“An education capable of saving humanity is no small undertaking: it involves the spiritual development of the person, the enhancement of his or her value as an individual, and the preparation of young people to times in which they live.”
-Maria Montessori (Education and Peace)
